Maryann Preble speaks about her trip to “The County” for the 2022 SUFU Conference.

Maryann is a long time, proud SUFU member who lives in Augusta, Maine.

Maryann is SUFU’s 2021 Paige Barton award winner while Kile Pelletier is SUFU’s 2022 Paige Barton award winner. They were both surprised with a Limousine ride from the bus drop in Presque Isle to the Caribou Inn and Convention Center in Caribou.

Showing a big grin, Maryann explained:

My trip to The County was good, I liked it, especially after the surprise I got! All three advisors cooked it up. I had never ridden in a Limo, and it made me feel like I was on air. It was an experience to be picked up in a limo, taken through Arby’s and then to Caribou. There were members waiting outside when we got there. Everyone was really shocked when I showed up in the Limo.

I wasn’t able to go to the Central Maine Conference and had to travel to Caribou, but I had a lot of fun. I got to see a lot of Self Advocates in person instead of on Zoom. It was quite an experience for me to travel to The County to Caribou. I really enjoyed myself.

There was a lot of room at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center and the service was good. We had quite a big crowd and I liked the area that we had it in. I was glad that my hotel room was close, and it was easy for me to get to the restaurant. I want to tell the Caribou Inn staff, thank you. I want to thank Stacy and Kile for picking me up and all of you for what you’ve done for me to get there. I really, really, really appreciate it.

If you would like to partner with SUFU to help other self-advocates attend events like our Conference you can give one of two ways.
