Getting the Covid-19 Vaccine; Self-advocates share their experience.
There has been a lot of information about getting the Covid-19 Vaccine. We asked some of our self-advocates who have received their first dose to share their experiences with us in order to share with you.
Chris Heywood from our Springvale Chapter shared “After I got the shot, I had to wait in a different room for about 15 minutes to make sure that I was doing ok with it. I was a little tired afterwards and fell asleep on my couch. My arm was kind of sore for a couple of days, but it went away. I did check my temperature and it was normal pretty much”
Tucker Conley also received his first of the vaccine and shared “I would say it is easy and painless. There is a nurse who will check on you for 15 minutes to make sure you don’t display any symptoms. My covid shot went great and my shoulder was just a little sore, like a flu shot. Make sure you bring any insurance card or forms with you to the appointment”
And finally Alicia Duchette shared her experience “I felt good, but tired. That was normal from the vaccine shot and my arm did hurt. The pain in my arm went away two days later. I am waiting for my date to go back and get my second shot.”
We hope to get more self-advocate stories like this to share with you! Thank you to Alicia, Tucker and Chris for sharing!
We also wanted to share this great tool to help us all understand what to expect when it is our turn to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. This was developed by the Center for Dignity in Healthcare for People with Disabilities and the University of Cincinnati UCEDD:
