Hi Everyone

I’m here to talk to you about black history month and maybe what black history month is about.  It started way back in 1926 in the United States by Carter G. Woodson.  He was the first to designate a time to promote and educate people about Black History and culture.  He was a historian and the president of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.  It started out as one week in February.  It was expanded to for the entire month of February because the second week of the month coincides with the birthday of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.    Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation and Douglass, who was a former slave was a leader in the movement to end slavery.
People might not know what Black History month is, but it is important to teach everyone the importance of black history.  It is essential to ensure the physical and intellectual survival of blacks and their contributions to the United States.
February isn’t just another month, it is something that is important to us, and time for us to learn about others.
