Hi, this is Jon McGovern

Today I want to tell you about the roll of self-advocate that are on the MDDC about their Leadership in the DD Network.

First, I spoke with Regina, and she is the Council Treasurer.  Regina shares that she likes to listen to what people have to say before answering questions.   Nancy Cronin, Executive Director, gives updates on the council and then Regina will make decisions based upon the updates that have been given.   Regina works with Nancy as she is the treasurer.

I, Jon, listen to what others have to say before asking questions depending upon the topic or whatever Presentation has been given.  As part of the Council and I am on the Nominations Committee. When we get Council Applications, the Nominations Committee Members talk about Applications then meet with the people who have applied so we know a little bit about them. This gives us the chance to ask them questions and the applicants to ask us questions.   The other Nominations Committee members have me overseeing this committee.   Part of my job is to keep in touch with Nancy and Brenda

I also spoke with Kile who is the Chair of the Council.  He enjoys being the chair of the council and keeping everyone on task during our meetings.   He works closely with the Co-Chair, Abbott.  They are on the same page. Kile speaks the parts he does and gives Abbott his turn to speak on his parts on the Council.  Kile goes to the Executive Committee and keeps people on track there as well. Kile is always a great leader and Mentor and has helped me and others be great on the Council.

Lastly, I spoke with Abbott. Abbott loves being the Co-Chair of the Council and likes working with his Chair Kile. Abbott has done really well in his role on the Council. He also goes to the Executive Committee and gives his input on the Executive Committee and on the Council. Abbott listens and if people forget Abbott reminds us to listen. Listening is one of Abbott strong points.

There are other self-advocates that are on the DD Council. I’ll tell you about them in a future post.
