Rotary Club honors Diemer
Brunswick - If you live in the Brunswick area, you may have seen Judy Diemer out and about selling raffle tickets, volunteering or fundraising.
For her efforts on behalf of local nonprofit agencies, Diemer received a Paul Harris Fellowship Monday at the Brunswick Rotary Club's luncheon at the Atrium in Cook's Corner. The Paul Harris Fellowship is Rotary International's highest honor for community service.
Diemer personifies the Rotary Club's motto of "service above self" by donating hours of her time and energy to give back to the community. She has raised money and awareness for countless groups and local organizations, including the Girl Scouts, Brunswick Fire Department, the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in Portland, the St. John's Bazaar and the Independence Association, which provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Through pledge drives and other fundraising methods, Diemer has raised more than $1,000 for nonprofit or civic groups and organizations in the greater Brunswick area.
In addition to raising funds for local groups, Diemer donates her time to help improve her community. She was honored Monday for her volunteer work for such local entities as the Coastal Humane Society, the Brunswick Soup Kitchen and the American Red Cross.
At Monday's luncheon, Diemer received a pin and medal with a certificate thanking her for her continual outstanding service to the community.
An appreciative Diemer accepted her awards and thanked the Rotarians and friends for coming to the luncheon and for their continuous support.
Diemer graduated from Brunswick High School in 1978, and currently resides in Brunswick. The time that she is not spending on making our community a better place, Diemer enjoys making dishcloths and potholders.
