JODI’S CHALLENGE

Hello SUFU Members from the Disability Rights Center!

I love working here at DRC and being an Advocate for people who have developmental disabilities. I especially like the time I get to spend with SUFU members. I can't do my job without hearing from YOU. Now, let's get down to business.

What are we all working on?

Community Inclusion! Acceptance! Real lives! Relationships! Full Participation!

This is the important stuff in all of our lives. So…if we are really committed to making those things better, we have to LIVE IT!!!

So I have put out a challenge to all SUFU members and supporters to work on these goals of making FULL PARTICIPATION real!

I challenge everyone to do at least ONE thing per month for yourself or someone else to increase participation for people with disabilities. This must be something more than what you already do in your work or your everyday life…something NEW!

So here are some ideas:

When you notice a 'barrier' that gets in the way of people with disabilities being able to access a place in the community-let someone know! Give a friendly suggestion.

Get 'out of the way' and let someone you are supporting interact with the public instead of doing it for them.
