Disability Advocacy Day
Disability Advocacy Day is an ongoing activity organized by the Maine Developmental Disabilities Council in concert with other members of the Maine Disability Advocates Coalition.
Disability Advocacy Day is an opportunity for self-advocates, family members, and other interested parties to become more familiar and comfortable taking an active role in the legislative process.
Participants will hopefully get to know their elected officials personally and become mentors for others who wish to speak up for themselves about the important issues of the day.
Disability Advocacy Day takes place every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 9 AM during the legislative session at the State House. We start by meeting in the back room of the Cross State Office Building Cafeteria to give introductions and updates and to answer any questions participants may have. We then move upstairs to the 3rd floor of the State House so that participants can meet their own State Representative and State Senator.
It is often beneficial for a particular organization or association to co-host a Disability Advocacy Day with the DD Council. If your organization or a group of individuals you represent wish to arrange such an Advocacy Day please contact Andrew Roth-Wells at
aroth-wells@maineddc.org or 1-800-244-3990. The event can be arranged in any manner that makes the most sense for you and your organization.
