SELF ADVOCATES CELEBRATE THE DRC’S

28TH ANNIVERSARY IN PORTLAND

By Paul Picard and Laura Antranigian

Eleven self advocates attended the DRC 5th Annual Membership Dinner and 28th Anniversary Celebration on November 4, 2005 at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland.

The keynote speaker was United States Congressman Tom Allen. He spoke about jobs for people with disabilities and about cuts in Medicaid.

Alice Conway got the Helen Bailey Advocacy Award for all the things she does in the community for people with disabilities. Congratulations Alice!

Self advocates and people from all over the state and many disability organizations had a nice dinner served in courses! We had a chance to talk, laugh and get to know each other. It was nice.

After dinner some of us got together for drinks and dancing in the lounge. We were having so much fun the keyboard player got out on the floor and danced with us.
