At the 2006 SABE conference, there was a money award given to a self advocate from Louisiana to help him rebuild his life, he lost everything in the wake of Katrina.

The money sent by SUFU Augusta Gardiner Community Self-Advocacy group, was distributed by People First and went to aide this man to help him rebuild his life.

He nominated his state to have the National Conference in Louisiana in the year 2010, to prove that Louisiana was going to come back stronger and better than ever.
