NETWORK PARTNERS

The federal law, the Developmental Disabilities Assistance And Bill Of Rights Act Of 2000, PL 106-402, (DD ACT), creates three programs in every state and territory in the United States that work on different objectives, but work in unison to meet the single mission of the DD Act.  Together the three agencies are called the "Network Partners," who under the DD Act, also work in partnership with the state's self-advocacy group.

SUFU has joined as a Maine Network Partner with:

Maine Developmental Disabilities Council
State Councils on Developmental Disabilities focus on advocacy, capacity building, and systemic change, that among other things contribute to coordinated consumer and family-centered, family-directed efforts supporting community services, individualized supports, and other forms of assistance that promote self-determination for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Disability Rights Center
With respect to protection and advocacy systems, the DD Act restates the long-standing purpose to protect the legal and human rights of individuals with developmental disabilities.

University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies
University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service, were created to focus on continuing education as well as pre-service education, the provision of community services, the conduct of research, and the dissemination of information.
