| The federal
law, the Developmental Disabilities Assistance And Bill Of Rights Act Of 2000, PL
106-402, (DD ACT), creates three programs in every state and territory in the United
States that work on different objectives, but work in unison to meet the single
mission of the DD Act. Together the three agencies are called the "Network
Partners," who under the DD Act, also work in partnership with the state's
self-advocacy group. |

a Maine Network Partner with:
Maine Developmental Disabilities Council
State Councils on
Developmental Disabilities focus on advocacy, capacity building, and
systemic change, that among other things contribute to coordinated consumer
and family-centered, family-directed efforts supporting community services,
individualized supports, and other forms of assistance that promote
self-determination for individuals with developmental disabilities and their
families.

Disability Rights Center
With respect to
protection and advocacy systems, the DD Act restates the long-standing
purpose to protect the legal and human rights of individuals with
developmental disabilities.

University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies
University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities
Education, Research, and Service, were created to focus on continuing
education as well as pre-service education, the provision of community
services, the conduct of research, and the dissemination of information.
