Augusta Civic Center
Maine Employment First Summit
Hosted by Maine APSE
As a leader in Maine we request your presence at an exciting, by invitation
only, conversation and kick off event on improving and enhancing integrated
employment in Maine for citizens with disabilities.
We seek a diverse gathering at this event to help discuss, define and launch an
Employment First Vision that unites Maine’s disability, advocacy, service, and
business communities. Will you join us?
Did you know:
- Nationally, over 70% of individuals with disabilities are unemployed?
- 87% of the American public would prefer to give their business to companies
who hire job seekers with disabilities?
- The Ticket to Work program and Social Security work incentives have removed
many barriers to employment for individuals?
- That nationally there were 307,866 SSI beneficiaries between the ages of 18-22
in July 2009 and of these, only approximately 5,000 were employed at least part
time?
Highlights of the day:
- Featured speaker and “community conversation” facilitator Laura Owens,
Executive Director of APSE.
- Joint meetings of SILC, SUFU, etc…..
- State of the State: Employment First across the Nation
- Art of the Possible: Employment Success Stories that will create hope,
stimulate imagination, and increase expectations of all stakeholders.
