Disability Awareness Day in April is an event at the statehouse, in the Hall of Flags. SUFU has a display table at this event. The purpose is for SUFU members to talk to their legislators about SUFU, why self-advocacy is important and issues that are important to SUFU.
Disability Advocacy Day: This is hosted by the Developmental Disabilities Council and is held at the State House. This is a great opportunity for self-advocates, families, staff and agency personnel to learn about how laws are made, to meet your elected officials, and learn your way around the statehouse. If the Legislature is in session, you can go to a hearing and see how people give testimony. All SUFU members should encourage agencies they receive services from to choose from one of the dates above and support a group of people to go to an Advocacy Day.
